O’Brien Memorial Library

The library has been a central part of the Blue River community for over 90 years. The library started in 1928 when Frances O’Brien, a schoolteacher, took it upon herself to ensure that her students had access to quality reading materials, even if it was on the front porch of her house. The library evolved and grew over many years, but that same spirit of serving the community remained.

Our beloved library in Blue River, staffed by volunteers, provided books and videos to the general public for years.

This is why when the Blue River Library burned to the ground in September 2020, there was immediate momentum behind efforts to rebuild it. The majority of our patrons had their homes destroyed by the fire, as did many of our volunteers. The community has gathered their strength and is committed to furnishing these resources again as we work to rebuild.
